COMMON ANTS FOUND IN HOMES

Solutions For All Types Of Ant Issues

At Pest Assassins, we understand that ants can quickly become a nuisance in both residential and commercial spaces. Our expert team is equipped with advanced strategies and products tailored to effectively eliminate ant infestations while preventing future occurrences.

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants can pose a significant threat to both residential and commercial properties, making them a pest you don't want to overlook. Unlike termites, carpenter ants do not consume wood; instead, they excavate it to create nests. This behavior can lead to substantial structural damage if not addressed promptly.

Carpenter ants are typically large, ranging from 1/4 to 1/2 inch in size, and are usually black or bicolored. Look for the following signs to determine if these pests are invading your space:

- Frass: This is a mixture of wood particles, dead ants, and feces that may accumulate around their nesting sites.

- Sound: Listen for faint rustling noises coming from wooden structures, especially at night when the ants are most active.

- Trailing Ants: Large trails of ants can often be seen moving to and from a food source.

Pavement Ants

Pavement ants, scientifically known as *Tetramorium caespitum*, are small but tenacious pests commonly found in urban environments. Recognizable by their dark brown to black coloration and characteristic segmented bodies, these ants typically measure between 2.5 to 4 mm in length. Pavement ants thrive in cracks and crevices in pavement, sidewalks, and building foundations, making them a common nuisance for both residential and commercial properties.

Pavement ants are primarily nocturnal foragers, which means they often scavenge for food during the night. Their diet is omnivorous, consisting of various food items, including protein sources like dead insects and sugary substances such as honeydew and other plant excretions.

These ants create extensive colonies that can lead to significant infestations. Their nests can be identifiable by small mounds of dirt or debris near cracks in pavement.

Eliminating any pest colony is crucial for several reasons, especially when it comes to maintaining a safe and healthy environment in both residential and commercial spaces. Here are some additional types of ants we service for:

Odorous House Ants

Odorous house ants are small, dark brown to black ants that release a distinctive, unpleasant odor when crushed—hence their name. Unlike some other ant species, these ants do not build mounds outside and instead create nests indoors, often in wall voids, under floors, or near moisture sources.

Odorous house ants are primarily attracted to sweet substances, including the residues left behind from sugary foods and drinks. They can enter through small cracks and crevices, leading them straight to your pantry or countertops.

Citronella Ants

One often overlooked pest is the citronella ant. These ants are known for their distinct lemony scent, which is released when they are crushed. Although they are not harmful to human health, their presence can indicate underlying issues that need to be addressed.

Citronella ants (not to be confused with the mosquitoes that are repelled by citronella oil) are typically found in warmer regions. They are small, usually about 1/8 inch long, and are identifiable by their yellowish color. These ants prefer to nest in moist and decaying wood, making properties with wood decay or water damage particularly susceptible to infestation.

Pharaoh Ants

Pharaoh ants are typically yellow to light brown and possess small, slender bodies. They measure about 1/16 to 1/8 inch long and are often mistaken for other ant species. One of their distinguishing features is their darkened abdomen, which makes them easy to identify upon closer inspection.

Pharaoh ants are particularly troublesome because of their nesting habits. They prefer warm, humid environments and can establish colonies in walls, under floors, and even in electrical equipment. They are also notorious for their ability to survive and thrive indoors, making them a frequent nuisance in homes and businesses alike.
